It is usually simple to download and setup. You can purchase the plugin here: https://wp-rocket.me/pricing/
You will receive a .zip file with the latest version of the plugin, and you will also receive an email with your WP-Rocket account login details. Furthermore, you will use these credentials to log into your WP-Rocket.me account where you can upgrade, manage your license, etc.
To install the plugin, log into your WordPress Dashboard and navigate to Plugins on the menu on the left, and then choose Add New:
From the Add Plugins page, click on Upload Plugin, and then click Choose File. Navigate to your WP Rocket zip file and select it, then click Install Now:
Next, go to Plugins and Enable the WP Rocket plugin. You will then see WP Rocket in the menu on the left:
By default, WP Rocket automatically applies 80% of web performance best practices, so you should already notice better performance for your site. There are a few extra settings that will help your site run even better.
File Optimization
On the File Optimization page, we would recommend “Minify CSS files” and “Optimize CSS delivery”. The “Remove unused CSS” option is stable and works better for most sites, but if it fails for you, “load css asynchronously” should work.
On the same page, we recommend enabling some JavaScript optimizations under "JavaScript Files":
The next option is critical if you want better PageSpeed scores. You should delay any script that is not essential for the site loading:
Keep in mind that anything delayed will load only after use interaction on screen, such as moving mouse, for example.
Media
In the Media section, we recommend enabling all options:
Preload
We usually don't recommend preload. The difference on site speed is minimal, and it will greatly increase resource usage such as bandwidth and CPU.
| Preloading on WP-Rocket does not work properly with Rocket.net's Enterprise CDN. If preloading is enabled, it may cause extremely high bandwidth use and excessive CPU use. |
Advanced Rules
On this page, you can adjust some pages that can't be cached, and you can also set a time to make the cache expire automatically. Unless you have any caching issues, the default option of unlimited is fine. That avoids unnecessary cache purges and increases performance.
Database
We recommend the following options for database:
That should keep your database fast and lightweight. There is an option to delete draft and revision posts as well, feel free to enable it if you don't need those posts.
CDN
You can skip this section, the Rocket CDN is enabled by default.
Heartbeat
We just recommend enabling the “Control Hearbeat” option:
Addons
In this section, most options are incompatible with Rocket. The only option that might be interesting if you have a LMS system is “User Cache”. It allows WP-Rocket to cache the backend as much as possible to provide a faster experience when your users are logged in. Keep in mind that user cache may increase disk usage significantly.
Tools
Lastly, optimizing Google fonts is a great way to make sure they load from our Cloudflare Enterprise CDN:
That is just about it. We are not experts in WP-Rocket, but we are glad to help as we can. For more advanced options and settings, we recommend chatting with the WP-Rocket support directly on their site.
