Using Autoptimize at Rocket.net

Caching plugins are very useful, and we recommend them. Caching plugins do not always handle minification however and for that purpose we recommend Autoptimize.

What is Minification?

Minification describes the process of eliminating redundant CSS, Javascript, and HTML and perhaps even serving them all from a single file instead of multiple files. By combining redundant code and serving it in a single file, fewer HTTP requests are needed which is sometimes desired.

Do you need Autoptimize at Rocket.net?

The answer is unique to every site, but the general answer is that you probably won't need Autoptimize at Rocket.net. Why? Because with Cloudflare's HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 delivery, the need for combining individual requests into one file is not as great. In some cases, the aggregation of files could actually slow down delivery because the site can no longer take advantage of HTTP/3 multiplexing.

Conclusion

The only way to really know if your site will benefit from Autoptimize is to try it. Adjust one setting at a time, and then test your changes. Make sure that the site still loads correctly and that the metrics that matter to you are not negatively affected.
